Some Things About The Things This Week
Hey, it’s me again back in your inboxes. This will be short.
Eight months ago I was laid off from CoinDesk. The following is what has transpired since then. Included are details around the future of this newsletter.
On March 13th I finished a novel manuscript. The novel is titled On Sawdust & Broken Glass. It’s about a father, a son, a family sawmill, and the tricky dynamics of family business. I am querying agents to win the honor of publishing a book so that I can make a little bit of money. It has been frustrating. Publishing is a tough, tough business. That said, the eternal words of Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter do genuinely ring true: “I barbwired my wrist and let it fill the page.” The mere existence of this novel, my novel, is enough to feel accomplished.
It would, however, be better if I could make money off the book (for food and life and stuff). If any of you have a fiction agent you’d be willing to connect me with I’ll be forever indebted to you.
In the meantime, I have two (2) irons in the fire.
First, I’ve applied to a fellowship which I hope to get to fund a book project. This would be a dream.
Second, I am pursuing freelancing opportunities to write about Bitcoin. My portfolio can be found on my website (https://www.kaloudis.xyz/).
Things about The Future: I will be sending newsletters every week (probably every other week). The structure will be an essay/article with my thoughts from the week and then a section at the end which outlines the things I read that I think you should read. Topics will be: Bitcoin, finance, literature, sports, music. Basically all the things I tweet about. Who knows what this will become, but for now it’ll be a proving ground for my nonfiction writings.

There’s a chance I don’t follow through, but I’ll try! Everyone says they want to do a newsletter or podcast and they never follow through! My preloaded excuse: I have to spend time doing things that pay me money (because I need food and stuff!).
’til next time (May 3rd?).
